Inelastic X-ray scattering experiments to probe electronic excitations
Inelastic X-ray scattering at third generation synchrotron sources is a technique gaining an increasing interest from a growing community of users. Referring to the capabilities of beamline ID20 at the ESRF, I will recall the main fields of activity for IXS to probe electronic excitations in condensed matter, focusing in particular on resonant inelastic X-ray scattering experiments at the Ir L3 edge.
