Gauge/Gravity Duality: Foundations and applications to strongly coupled systems
Based on string theory, gauge/gravity duality maps strongly coupled quantum
field theories to weakly coupled gravity theories. It thus provides a new
approach for studying physical phenomena in strongly coupled systems. We
describe the main features of this approach and discuss selected examples.
These include new results for relativistic hydrodynamics and for anomalous
transport, with possible implications for Dirac matter and for Weyl semimetals.
As a further example, we present a new Kondo model within gauge/gravity
duality, which amounts to a Luttinger liquid coupled to a magnetic impurity.
