Has Majorana returned, and why we should care

This talk will review recent experiments by several groups, including ours, aimed at identifying signatures of Majorana fermions in condensed matter systems. To date, the experiments are very suggestive, but uncertainties remain. What can future experiments do to make the case air-tight? As time allows, I will also discuss how such states might be valuable to topological quantum information processing.
