From quantum gravity to strongly coupled field theories
There is evidence that spacetime and gravity emerge from the dynamics of more fundamental, strongly coupled degrees of freedom. The most concrete realization of this idea is the AdS/CFT paradigm, where gravity is holographically encoded in the physics of certain conformal field theories. I will describe some of my contributions towards understanding fundamental aspects of AdS/CFT, in particular the search for the dual description of the volume of the emergent space, and general results about chaos and the quantum butterfly effect in strongly coupled quantum systems.
